San Diego Spine Foundation

The San Diego Spine Foundation (SDSF) was established by Behrooz A. Akbarnia, M.D. in 2004 to support spine-related research and education. The SDSF’s mission statement is to improve the global care of patients with spinal disorders and deformities through research, education and professional development.

Since its inception, the Foundation has proudly provided funding to support the San Diego Spine Fellowship Program, which provides clinical/research education and professional development to young orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons wishing to pursue the field of spine surgery.

Spine research is a major interest for the SDSF. The Foundation has received and provided grants for numerous adult and pediatric spine research related studies, many of which have been presented in national and international meetings and has led to multiple publications.

The Foundation has also been involved in other educational endeavors including sponsorship of the regularly held San Diego City Wide Spine Meetings, which offers area physicians and their clinical staff who provide spine care, advanced education on current and future trends in the spine field.

The Foundation has also sponsored in the past, the International Congress on Early Onset Scoliosis and Growing Spine meetings

Inquiries regarding potential contributions should be directed to info@sandiegospinefoundation.org. We believe that our Foundation’s planned projects would fit both private and corporate requirements as a worthy spine research program support. We would be happy to send out the necessary tax forms and any additional information as needed.
